Here we give you a small snapshot of who we are and how we come to own a bed and breakfast establishment in Clonaklty, West Cork..
We moved from Cork City to Clonakilty, West Cork in 1994. Mari is originally from Youghal, Co. Cork and Mick comes from Clonmel, Co. Tipperary. We have two sons. The family is completed with two gundogs, Sally a Brittany Spaniel and Cloe a Black Retriever (closely resembles a Vietnamese Potbellied Pig)
Having moved from Cork City to Clonakilty in 1994 we saw an opening for a Bed and Breakfast establishment that would concentrate on providing quality accommodation, enhanced by local produce and home made baking. We opened our doors to the general public in 1997. Baking our own white yeast and brown and white soda bread, we quickly realised the demand that was there for simple home produce.
We now concentrate on produce gathered more in ‘foot-miles’ than ‘sky-miles’. We pick Blackberries, Blackcurrents, Redcurrents and Damsons locally to produce our homemade jams. We grow our own rhubarb to make our rhubarb muffins and collect our pressed apple juice from Cahir, Co. Tipperary.
Our pork products travel all of five (5) miles to reach our breakfast tables and our free range eggs don’t even make it past one (1) mile. As avid tea drinkers, we insist on tea made with tea leaves and wouldn’t expect our guests to enjoy anything less. Pressed cafeteria coffee is also served rather than the bland instant variety.
We think we have combined an excellent balance of product and price for
our guests and continually seek to add the X Factor to what we offer.
We love to provide our guests with all the local information and recommendations
and always welcome any advice that our guests might offer.
